The Royal Tour With Chauffeur Tour Scotland

Glamis CastleScone PalaceBalmoral Castle

The Royal Tour

The first day starts with a tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty The Queen, but is perhaps best known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scots, and briefly served as the headquarters of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 uprising. Travel over the Forth Road Bridge northwards to one of the most historic sites in Scotland, Scone Palace, the crowning place of Scottish Kings, now the cherished family home of the Earl of Mansfield. In the extensive grounds of Scone Palace there is a replica of the Stone of Destiny and the chapel on Moot Hill where the coronations took place. Near Pitlochry visit the House of Bruar, nestling at the side of the famous Bruar Falls, for a variety of shopping opportunities in Scotland's most prestigious country store. There is also an extensive range of Scottish foods for the gourmet and a fabulous 'country kitchen' restaurant. Time permitting, a short tour of the nearby distillery, Edradour, Scotland's smallest, can be arranged. Travelling northwards again to the foot of the Grampian Mountains to stay overnight at Craigendarroch, a country-house hotel set in the spectacular Cairngorms National Park.

The second day begins at nearby Balmoral Castle set amongst the magnificent scenery of Royal Deeside, in the shadows of Lochnagar. Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1848, the Estate has been the Scottish Home of the British Royal Family ever since. (open 29th March until Thursday 31st July 2008). After travelling through some of the most spectacular Scottish scenery, including the towering Meikleour Beech Hedge, arrive at Glamis Castle the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Spires, turrets, towers and statues will seize your attention initially, but there is so much more to explore in this legendary Castle with its strong links with history, royalty and fiction. Return to Edinburgh/Glasgow.

This is only a guide as any other royal historical sites can be incorporated into a tailored sightseeing tour of your own making. You can lengthen or shorten the duration of your tour and select your own accommodation.
